Advantan Information

Advantan is a prescription ointment with the generic name of methylprednisolone aceponate 0.1 is used for the topical treatment of inflammatory and allergic reactions.

Advantan comes in three forms:

Advantan Cream – a low fat formula with high water concentrations. This formulation is ideal for the treatment of acute stages of eczema. This is also ideal for greasy skin textures and for hairy parts of the body
Advantan Ointment – A balanced mixture of fat and water. Has the widest coverage of use.
Advantan Fatty Ointment – as the name suggest, this formulation is mostly highly fat concentrated. This ointment is mainly prescribed for the treatment of chronic stages of skin diseases. This ointment tend to provide occlusive treatment ot the affected ares of the skin due to its anhydrous nature.

Advantan Indications

Advantan is used for the treatment of inflammatory and allergic skin reactions as associated with the symptoms of erythema, edema, infiltration, and lichenification.

Advantan may also be used to suppress itching burning and pains on the skin.

Advantan may also be used for the treatment of endogenous eczema such as atopic dermatitis and neurodermatitis. Advantan is also effective for the treatment of contact eczema, dyshidrotic and other types of eczema.


Advantan Warnings

The use of Advantan during pregnancy is strongly prohibited. Breast feeding is also strongly not advised when using Advantan.

The degree of percutaneous absorption depends of the condition of the area where Advantan is applied.

Corticosteroids such as Advantan may be teratogenic in animals after dermal application therefore use Advantan with caution.

Periodic review of the need for Advantan treatment must be observed so as to assess if there is a need to continue with therapy.


Advantan Application Guidelines

Advantan is strictly for external use only. Advantan may be applied thinly on the affected skin once a day. Before applying Advantan, always ensure that the affected area is thoroughly cleaned first.

It is also advised that Advantan may not be used for prolonged applications. As a general rule, Advantan may not be used for more than 12 weeks in adults and 4 weeks in children.

Advantan should also not be used around the areas near to the eyes as contact with the eye may cause severe eye irritation.


Advantan Dosage

Apply Advantan as directly instructed by your doctor.


Advantan Overdose

Advantan is a liquid for skin applications and excessive use of Advantan resulting to more than 12 weeks in adults and 4 weeks in children may cause unfavorable results such the thinning of skin, loss of skin’s elasticity, dilation of superficial blood vessels, telangiectasiae and ecchymoses.

Advantan Missed Dose

Advantan is ideally applied to affected area of the skin for at least once a day. If you forget to apply on that day, proceed with you application the next day.

Advantan Side Effects

Some of the side effects of using Advantan are:

Itching
Burning
Erythema
Folliculitis
Hypertrichosis
Perioral dermatitis
Allergies to components of Advantan

Advantan Drug Reactions

There are no known drugs interactions with Advantan usage
